Male homosexuality in the final dissertations of Medicine College of Bahia (1850-1890)

Abstract

The main objective of this article is indicating how male homosexuality was narrated by medicine doctors in 19th century Bahia. From a moral arraign, the eroticism and love between males became a disease in the end of the century with its own features and body marks. Intend to show also how these medical discourses were liked with social concerns in that period. So, it wasn’t an empty discussion apart of social reality, only occurring only in the Medical College of Bahia during 19th century.

Effemination on 19th Century Writings

Abstract
At the 19th century, effemination was a very peculiar category in some documents, like newspapers, novels, and the doctoral thesis wrote by the medicine students to getting his academical degree. These descriptions weren’t good at all about men whom get dressed, spoke, or behaved unlike his own gender. The objective of this brief article is study distinct kinds of framing these people in distinct documents.
